Design

The EcoCityLab designs urban projects (from landscapes to new towns, including urban regeneration) that would have zero-carbon emissions, be self-reliant in terms of infrastructure services (energy, food, water, and sanitation), and to have the smallest possible ecological footprint. To this end, all of our projects feature:

  • Place-based urban design
  • Pedestrian environments
  • Mixed land uses
  • Bio-climatic architecture (sourced with local materials)
  • Sustainable transportation (and some car-free zones)
  • Biodiversity-enhancing areas
  • Rain and wastewaters management & recycling
  • Energy efficiency & non-fossil fuel energy production
  • Urban agriculture
  • Solid (organic and not-organic) waste management & recycling
  • Climate-sensitive urban design (for Urban Heat Island control)
  • Variety of housing tenure and economic types (including social housing)
