Design
The EcoCityLab designs urban projects (from landscapes to new towns, including urban regeneration) that would have zero-carbon emissions, be self-reliant in terms of infrastructure services (energy, food, water, and sanitation), and to have the smallest possible ecological footprint. To this end, all of our projects feature:
- Place-based urban design
- Pedestrian environments
- Mixed land uses
- Bio-climatic architecture (sourced with local materials)
- Sustainable transportation (and some car-free zones)
- Biodiversity-enhancing areas
- Rain and wastewaters management & recycling
- Energy efficiency & non-fossil fuel energy production
- Urban agriculture
- Solid (organic and not-organic) waste management & recycling
- Climate-sensitive urban design (for Urban Heat Island control)
- Variety of housing tenure and economic types (including social housing)
